The strong crisis that has been battering Spain since 2008 has led to a string of cuts, especially in the spending on and consumption of certain public goods. This phenomenon became particularly apparent from 201 O, when a fiscal consolidation policy was promoted. The overall contraction of public spending in the context of the local govemments continued until 2013. Traditionally, spending on culture has been one of the most elastic in the face of the economic cycle. Through this small-scale study, we attempt to ascertain whether it has indeed been affected by the changes in the local govemment during each of the chosen periods. On the other hand, some authors posit that considering culture’s redistributive nature, left-wing govemments are expected to spend more on culture than right-wing ones. (Benito et al„ 2013). It is rather obvious that the dimension of the cultural budget at the local level has a clear ideological bias. Few understand culture as a public good, the ideology of the ruling party will determine the proportion of resources allocated to its provision. In the Valencian Community, after a long period of right-wing hegemony, the local and regional elections of May 2015 represented a 180-degree change in many of the counties. With this ascertainment as a starting point, this work attempts to estimate the effects that this change can have on the volume of public spending on culture in the region of La Hoya de Bufiol-Chiva. Through this study, we will try to estahlish if the final figures of the spending and investment models at the local and regional levels will change significantly in terms of the priority public goods (culture).
